This PostProcess exports the FourierTransform representation of a field to a Cartesian pupil-plane representation. It can be used, for example, to visualize the angular distribution of a field in a form corresponding to a back focal plane image. The pupil coordinates \boldsymbol{\sigma}=(\sigma_x,\sigma_y) are determined from the transverse wave-vector components of the Fourier modes according to Definition by \sigma-coordinates. For electric and magnetic field output, the field vectors of the Fourier modes are transformed to the Cartesian coordinate system of the pupil plane. This transformation is a rotation and therefore preserves the field norm. For electromagnetic energy flux density, the normal component of the Poynting vector with respect to the pupil plane is exported. Consequently, the power flux includes the projection onto the pupil-plane normal.
